Xiaomi Unleashes New AI Brain in China’s Tech Arms Race

Say Hello to MiLM

Xiaomi has officially entered China’s highly competitive AI arena with the launch of its first large language model, MiLM-6B. Developed by its AI Lab, the model offers support for up to 27 billion parameters in internal testing, although the released version currently clocks in at 6 billion. Xiaomi says the MiLM series has already been integrated across several internal operations, including Mi AI assistant and its smart devices, with public release plans in motion. The move reinforces the company’s ambitions beyond hardware and into foundational AI ecosystem building.

Climbing the Intelligence Ladder

Xiaomi claims that MiLM-6B performs competitively in both Chinese and English, outpacing several domestic models in benchmark tasks like natural language reasoning and code generation. The company is focusing on vertical applications of AI, targeting smart home interactivity and smartphone-integrated experiences. AI is expected to become a key strategic pillar for Xiaomi, joining other Chinese players like Huawei, Baidu, and Alibaba in the rush to build national-scale tech stacks amid global AI decoupling. Xiaomi’s entry also adds urgency to China’s ambition of localizing generative AI technologies.
